In line with modern trends in new media, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has expanded its online media presence through the Facebook, Twitter and Youtube platforms.
This is to complement the institution’s revamped website, which was launched in March 2015.
Social media is a critical tool which the Commission would harness in its efforts to move the Community from an ECOWAS of States to an ECOWAS of People in tandem with its vision 2020, according to a statement issued by the ECOWAS and made available to the Ghana news Agency.
“These Social media platforms would serve as an interactive forum between the Commission and community citizens as well as keep them informed of its activities and programmes,” it said.
The statement said information regarding recruitment, procurement, as well as political, social and economic activities are featured through these channels, thus bringing ECOWAS closer to its citizens and allowing them to interact and engage the organisation through comments and sharing of information.
“ECOWAS urges the general public as well as governments, non-governmental and international organisations to subscribe to its social media handles in order to be kept abreast with the Commissions’ activities and programmes in real time,” the statement said.
