The Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana HE Ali Halabi has called on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Air Marshal Michael Samson-Oje at his office on Thursday 3 March, 2016.
In brief remarks, HE Ali Halabi noted that his visit was not only official but a sentimental one between the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Lebanon. He stated that there was a special relationship between Ghana and Lebanon and that his visit reminded him of the soldiers who have died on peacekeeping operations in their bid to defend the sovereignty and peace in Lebanon.
He said the Lebanese government was also prepared to build a strong relationship with the GAF. He stated that in order to show appreciation and give tribute to the martyrs who died on the Lebanese soil and other peacekeeping missions, they had renewed the educational scholarship programme to children of those Martyrs.
He said Ghana continued to play a very important role in Lebanon as far as peacekeeping was concerned and that must be saluted.
In his response, the CDS welcomed the Ambassador and stated that he had been following the relationship between Ghana and Lebanon and lauded the support that the GAF and the country as a whole continued to receive from the Lebanese government.
The CDS took the opportunity to request from the Ambassador the permission to repaint the monument to give it a face-lift.
He thanked the Lebanese government for the scholarship programme for the fourteen soldiers who have lost their lives on a peacekeeping mission and looked forward to a better relationship and that the existing bond between them would continue to grow stronger.
