Dr Yaw Adu Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of Dan Adams Pharmaceuticals Industry Limited has appealed to the government to support local manufacturers to enable them to expand their businesses.
He said if this was done, the manufacturers can produce at least 60 per cent of the country’s drug requirement locally.
Dr Adu Gyamfi made the appeal when Her Excellency, Sun Baohong, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana paid a working visit to the company at Batsonaa, near Tema on Wednesday.
The visit was to afford the Ambassador the opportunity to know at first hand the operations of the company, and also find out the challenges being faced and see how best the Chinese government could offer assistance.
Dr Adu Gyamfi said lack of adequate support from government had also contributed to the influx of fake drugs onto the market.
The Chief Executive Officer mentioned some of the challenges the company was facing as lack of access to funds and the current power crisis.
He said the company, which was set up 10 years ago, had contributed immensely to the manufacturing industry in Ghana, adding that, it was only his company that produces Anti Ritro viral (ARV() drugs for the treatment of HIV/AIDS.
Ambassador Baohong commended the company for contributing to the health need of Ghanaians. She said the Chinese government would do everything possible to support the company in its expansion project.
