President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday announced that Ghana and Brazil would soon establish a Joint Permanent Cooperation Committee that would enable them to have bilateral engagements in the socio-economic development of their countries.
He said the two countries had over the years engaged in so many collaborations and the formation of such a permanent committee would catapult their development and cooperation.
President Mahama announced this when Mr Mauro Vieira, the Brazilian Federative Republic Minister for Foreign Relations, called on him at the Golden Jubilee Lounge at the Kotoka International Airport.
The Foreign Relations Minister, who is Ghana as part of his familiarization tour of some African countries, would hold some bilateral talks with the government before returning.
President Mahama said apart from working with Brazil towards the infrastructural development of Ghana, Ghanaians were also learning a lot, especially from the country’s engineering systems, which was becoming fashionable in Ghana.
“The Brazilian engineering is becoming fashionable in Ghana, especially in the way they work in the night….makes it so fascinating”.
President Mahama commended the Brazilian Government for its tremendous support to Ghana, especially, the assistance for the 209 kilometre Eastern Corridor roads.
He explained that communities along the Eastern corridor roads were mostly agrarian and the completion of that road would help in the carting of food stuff from the farming communities to the urban marketing centres.
President Mahama said although there may be some limitations after Ghana’s signing onto the International Monetary Fund programme, Ghana would still collaborate with the Brazilian Government in her quest to carry out her development projects.
Mr Vieira said his visit was to deepen, in the coming years, the already cordial relations that existed between the two countries.
He said having established relations in so many years, there was the need to strengthen economic relations that would enhance their trade and commerce in succeeding years.
