Israel – Ghana Holds Business Summit

Israel-Ghana on Monday, June 16, 2014 held an executive business summit in Accra to enable local businesses in Ghana to network and share knowledge with Israeli businessmen to address challenges facing local businesses.

The initiative was to deepen bilateral relations and allow for more investment in Ghana.

Mrs. Sharon Bar-li, Israel Ambassador said trade economic relations between the two countries should be an expression of strong support for each other.

Mrs. Bar-li made known at the summit attended by Mr. Avigdor Liberman, Minister of Foreign in Israel, who led a business delegation to Ghana.

She said Israel’s investment in Ghana exceeded $400 million, which demonstrates the faith her country has in efforts to consolidate the middle income status and long term economic growth of Ghana in spite of the challenges.

She said government has a major role to play in creating an inviting business atmosphere and takes the role of careful regulated market in a manner that would encourage the development of local industries and create incentives and mechanisms for the private sector.

“Ghana has a bright medium and long term economic future and we are all here for that reason,” she said.

Mrs. Bar-li urged the private sector to seek assistance through the trade department of Israel in Ghana.

Mr. Liberman said Israel is ready to share knowledge with Ghanaians to improve technology, development and education in the country to drive the cause of development.

He said this lasting change in development would be successful to ensure the improvement of the two countries.

Ms. Hanna Tetteh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, lauded the partnership between Ghana and Israel, and expressed the hope that the Israeli businessmen would yield opportunities that would bring about mutual benefits.

“Ghana is open to foreign investors and businesses and to Israel business as well,” she said.

She said diplomacy has moved away from just the political space to economic space since both countries are looking forward for new opportunities and the chance to expand.
