ECOWAS, AU, UN Urges Calm In Nigeria As Opposition PDP Rejects Poll Results

ecowasThe ECOWAS, the AU and the UN has called on all candidates, political parties and all Nigerians to continue to exercise patience, calm and restraint, in order to allow for the full results of the election to be released by the Independent National Elections Commission (INEC).

The call was necessitated by the rejection of the results of the presidential election of February 23, 2019 by one of the participating political parties, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which are still in the process of being released by the INEC.

“At the conclusion of the process, all aggrieved parties and persons are encouraged to resort to legal means to seek redress, in accordance with the Constitution and relevant laws of Nigeria, and as previously agreed in the Peace Accord of 13 February, 2019,” a joint statement said on Tuesday.

The PDP on Monday said it would not accept the results being announced by the INEC, alleging that the polls’ figures are been tweaked to favour the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC).
