Latest Ghanaian arrivals in Israel faced no ill-treatment – Okudzeto Ablakwa

Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Okudzeto Ablakwa, has confirmed that Ghanaians travelling to Israel after the recent deportation dispute have been received without any ill-treatment.

In a Facebook post, the minister said this positive development should allow Israeli visitors to Ghana to also enjoy the country’s well-known hospitality. He reminded the public of his earlier position that Ghana will always reciprocate how other nations treat its citizens.

According to Ablakwa, the update on the safe arrival of Ghanaian travellers was provided by the Embassy of Ghana in Tel Aviv. He added that this brings some calm to Ghana–Israel relations, which had been tense over the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, a report by JoyNews claims that the minister’s earlier statement—suggesting that Israeli authorities had apologised for the alleged mistreatment—is inaccurate. This has raised questions about the minister’s credibility regarding the unfolding diplomatic issue.

Ablakwa has, however, maintained that Ghana will continue to protect the dignity of its citizens and uphold friendly relations with all nations. He stressed that the government remains committed to its foreign policy of “friendship with all and enmity towards none.”

The Government of Ghana shall be unwavering in safeguarding the dignity of our nationals and other nationals as we pursue our avowed foreign policy of friendship with all nations and enmity towards none.
