The Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Simone Giger, joined three other ambassadors for a high-level dialogue hosted by Lady Julia Osei Tutu, focusing on women’s empowerment and child welfare.
The luncheon brought together the High Commissioner of Canada to Ghana, Myriam Montrat, the Ambassador of France to Ghana, Anne-Sophie Avé, and the Ambassador of Mexico to Ghana, Norma Ang Sánchez. The engagement formed part of commemorative activities marking the 27th anniversary of Osei Tutu II on the Golden Stool.
Discussions centred on strengthening the work of the Lady Julia Foundation, particularly in maternal health, child welfare, and expanding leadership and educational opportunities for women and children in the Ashanti Region and across the country.
The 27th enstoolment anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was marked by a high-level Executive Gala Dinner and diplomatic cultural programme held at the Manhyia Palace’s Jubilee Hall in Kumasi. The event formed part of a broader celebration themed “Advancing Peace and Sustainable Economic Development Through Royal Vision.”
The programme brought together a wide cross-section of global and local dignitaries, including ambassadors, political leaders, traditional rulers, and business executives who gathered to honour the Asantehene’s nearly three decades on the Golden Stool.
As part of the diplomatic engagements preceding and surrounding the gala, Ambassador Simone Giger of Switzerland and other members of the diplomatic corps were hosted at Manhyia Palace, where they participated in courtesy interactions and cultural engagements connected to the anniversary programme. These visits formed part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties and showcase Asante heritage.
The Luncheon attended also aligns with the broader work of the EVE Medical Foundation, founded by Lady Julia Osei Tutu, which focuses on improving women’s mental health, reproductive health, and social wellbeing.
The foundation has implemented advocacy, healing programmes, and community support initiatives aimed at addressing gaps in healthcare access and empowering vulnerable women and children, particularly in underserved communities across Ghana.
The 27th anniversary celebration of the Asantehene’s enstoolment on the Golden Stool was marked by a series of cultural and diplomatic engagements, culminating in the Akwasidae Festival at the Manhyia Palace. The event drew dignitaries, traditional leaders, and international partners, highlighting the enduring influence of the Ashanti Kingdom as a symbol of unity, identity, and cultural diplomacy in Ghana’s national and international relations.
As part of her broader diplomatic programme, the Ambassador has had engagements engagements with traditional leaders in Accra, including high-level discussions with the Paramount Queen Mother of Ngleshie Alata, Queen Affipong IV, focusing on women’s empowerment, youth development, and initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods in vulnerable communities such as Jamestown.
She also previously met the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, at the Swiss Embassy in Accra, where discussions centred on leadership, cultural preservation, and opportunities for young people.
