The United States Ambassador in Ghana, Mr Gene A. Cretz on Tuesday inaugurated 80, 000-dollar library, constructed by the Challenging Heights, with financial assistance from Hand-in Hand literacy, an American, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).

He also presented assorted books worth 800 dollars to stock the library.

Ambassador Cretz commended, challenging Heights for its efforts to fight against human trafficking on the Volta Lake.

He said the US Embassy in Ghana has assisted the Ghana Police Service to train police officer on trafficking-in persons, border security and crime scene investigation.

Nii Ephraim, Effutu Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), hinted that basic schools in the Effutu Municipality scored 42 percent in the 2013 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).

He regretted that about 85 percent of teachers in the Municipality are graduates, but yet the students are performing abysmally in the BECE, and called for a lasting solution to the problem.

Mr James Kofi Anann, President of Challenging Heights, said since 2003, the organization has rescued 1,050 children from child trafficking in fishing communities along the Volta Lake.

Mr Anann called on government and other development partners to continue to offer financial support to Challenging Heights to pursue its agenda.
