The Black Stars crashed out of the FIFA World Cup in Brasil after losing 1-2 to Portugal at the Estadio Nacional Dus Brasilia, in Brasilia on Thursday.

The Stars, who were hoping to win in the event Germany beat United States of America (USA) to qualify were unable to realise their dreams when defender John Boye scored an own goal in the 30th minute to put the Portuguese ahead.

Boye’s attempt to clear a cross from Ruben Amorim misdirected into the far corner to beat goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda for the opener.

The Stars succeeded in fetching the equaliser through Captain Asamoah Gyan, in the 57th minute.

Gyan, who is now the continents all-time leading scorer at the World Cup flicked in a cross from Kwadwo Asamoah.

Ghana could have increased the tally in the 61st minutes, when Abdul Madjid Warris was presented with a perfect opportunity after Gyan chipped one to him, though he was free he headed wide to deny Ghana the lead.

With the Portuguese dominant, it was obvious they were going to take home the three points and this materialized in the 80th minute through Cristiano Ronaldo.

Germany and the USA have therefore advanced to the one-sixteenth face of the competition, as toppers and runners-up of Group G respectively.
