China Offers Support To Ghana’s Energy Sector

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Sun Baohong, has pledged her country’s support of Ghana’s efforts to generate adequate electricity to accelerate economic growth.

According to her, government’s target of achieving 10 percent renewable component of its electricity generation mix by the year 2020 would receive the full support of her country through capacity building on renewable energy solutions.

Speaking in a meeting with Ghana’s Energy Minister Emanuel Armah-Kofi Buahat his office in Accra, Ms. Baohong said the close collaboration by both countries had resulted in the implementation of various successful energy projects, which has given her the confidence that the partnership could be further expanded.

She pledged to work closely with Mr. Buah to improve the energy sector and to achieve the goals of the government with respect to power generation and announced that China would offer training to Ghanaians to build capacity in the energy industry.

Mr. Buah, on behalf of the government, expressed Ghana’s gratitude to China for its continued support to the country and hoped for further deepening of the bilateral ties between both countries.

He recalled his recent visit to China, which he described as very “fruitful”, proposing how China could be of help in the renewable energy solutions for off-grid communities, some projects of which were already underway, adding that Ghana-China relations could be forged ahead through further collaborations in the energy sector.
