Denmark Gives $1.7m To Ghana To Fight Ebola

Ghana’s effort in helping to combat the deadly Ebola virus in West Africa has been given a major boost with a $1.7 million donation from Denmark.

According to the Danish development and trade minister, Mogens Jensen, their effort is to help “contain the spread of Ebola more effectively” in West Africa.

Jensen made the announcement Tuesday after a meeting with President John Mahama at the Global Green Growth Forum in Copenhagen.

“The Ebola epidemic in west Africa is the largest outbreak in the history of the disease. The situation is developing day by day. We have to attack from all angles in order to get the epidemic under control as quickly as possible,” he added.

Ghana is serving as an Ebola emergency hub where all regional efforts are coordinated to contain the haemorrhagic fever that has killed over 4,500 people mainly in West Africa – Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria.

President Mahama expressed his appreciation to the Scandinavian country and promised more will be done to combat the disease.

Denmark and Ghana have had a handful of recent Ebola scares, but all have proven to be false alarms.
