Mahama-at-VaticanPresident John Mahama will on Monday meet and hold discussions with Pope Francis at the Vatican.
The President left Ghana for the Vatican on Sunday.
It will be the first meeting between the two leaders, and follows Ghana’s appointment in 2013 of its first ambassador to the Holy See.
President Mahama will also meet with the Secretary of State of the Vatican and Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson.
He will be accompanied by his wife, Lordina, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Hanna S. Tetteh, and representatives of the Ghanaian Catholic Community.
Ghana does not only have a large number of Catholics but also benefits tremendously from humanitarian and benevolent activities of the church.
The church has established numerous educational and healthcare institutions, and also skills development programmes to benefit especially the poor.
