Drone attack injures two Ghanaian in Dubai

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the drone attack in the vicinity of the Dubai International Airport (DXB) that injured two Ghanaian nationals, describing the incident as a serious threat to public safety and civilian well‑being.

According to the Dubai Media Office, two drones fell near the airport on 11 March 2026, injuring four people, including two Ghanaians and a Bangladeshi who sustained minor injuries, and one Indian national who suffered moderate injuries. Air traffic at the airport continues to operate normally despite the incident.

In a statement, the ministry has confirmed that the injured Ghanaian nationals are currently receiving care at a hospital and are expected to make a full recovery. Ghana’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates led a delegation from the embassy to visit the affected nationals and offer support.

The Ministry strongly condemned the attack, reiterating that any action endangering civilians and critical infrastructure poses serious risks to public safety

“The Government of Ghana strongly condemns any act that endangers civilian lives and critical infrastructure. Such incidents pose serious risks to public safety and underscore the importance of ensuring the protection of civilians and vital international transport hubs.” the statement read

The Ministry has urged calm in light of the positive medical news for the injured and assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation, engaging with the appropriate authorities, and keeping lines of communication open. It also conveyed its thoughts and prayers to the injured individuals and their families:

“The Ministry is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to engage with the appropriate authorities as required. The Government of Ghana expresses its concern over the incident and conveys its thoughts to the injured individuals and their families” the Ministry stated

These diplomatic efforts come amid a widening regional conflict that has involved strikes across multiple countries and has disrupted aviation and maritime routes, as well as heightened risks to civilian populations and critical infrastructure.

The conflict in the Middle East has significantly escalated in recent weeks, centered on a major confrontation between the United States and Israel on one side, and Iran on the other. Joint US‑Israeli airstrikes inside Iran have targeted military and strategic sites across the country, prompting Iran to launch waves of ballistic missiles and drones at Israeli territory, US military bases in the Gulf, and civilian infrastructure in several Gulf states.

These hostilities have affected countries including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, with airspace closures, missile interceptions, and periodic rocket alerts becoming common as the conflict shows no immediate signs of abating.

The impact of these sustained hostilities has spilled beyond military targets, disrupting regional aviation and global commerce and increasing economic uncertainty. Major airports in the Gulf have seen flight cancellations and airspace restrictions due to security risks, and key maritime routes like the Strait of Hormuz, critical for global energy shipments, have experienced significant disruptions after Iran’s threats and attacks on shipping traffic.
