Ex-President Kufuor Attends UN Summit

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, left Accra for the United States to attend the upcoming summit of the UN in New York, as well as other meetings with organisations on which he serves as board member.

President Kufuor as UN Special Envoy would participate in the “Climate Change Dialogue,” which is part of deliberations towards next December’s Climate Change summit in Paris, France.

A statement signed by Mr Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson for Ex-President Kufuor and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Wednesday explained that Governments around the world are expected to make legally binding declarations towards reduction of gaseous emissions into the atmosphere to limit world temperatures to below two degrees by 2030 of pre-industrial levels.

Mr Kufuor would also address a meeting of the African Group on the “Renewable Energy Initiative,” which would look at ways in which African countries could design measures at adaptation, loss and damage control in energy production.

He would also address a meeting of the African Union’s New Partnership for Economic Development on: “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Importance of Climate Smart Agriculture in Achieving the SDGs in Africa”.

Former President Kufuor would attend a meeting of the Global Citizenship Panel, headed by Former British Prime Minister, Sir Gordon Brown, of which he is a member of the Board of Governors.

As chairman of the John A Kufuor Foundation, President Kufuor would hold talks with executives of the MacArther Foundation, on possible ways of collaboration between the two organisations.

The former President expected back home in the second week in October.
