Expect nothing but excellence – Envoys assure Mahama

The five newly commissioned envoys have assured President John Dramani Mahama of their unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and the advancement of Ghana’s foreign policy objectives, following a charge by the President to uphold the highest standards of diplomatic service and advance the government’s reset agenda abroad.

Speaking on behalf of the envoys, Ghana’s Ambassador-designate to Mali, Alhaji Alhassan, pledged their collective dedication to professionalism, national interest, and effective representation of Ghana. He assured the President that the envoys would work diligently to protect Ghana’s interests, strengthen relations with host countries, engage the Ghanaian diaspora, and enhance trade and economic cooperation during their tenure.

“I can fully assure the President that as we set forth into foreign lands to carry high the flag of God, he shall expect nothing but excellence. He has children and he shall keep the children. He shall be called one of the best persons in the world” he said

He further commended President Mahama for what he described as a careful and deliberate selection of envoys, noting that the appointments reflect experience, competence, and deep institutional knowledge of diplomacy. According to him, the President’s choices demonstrate a keen eye for excellence and a clear vision for Ghana’s international engagement.

Highlighting the credentials of his colleagues, he noted that Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Said Sale Sinare, brings extensive diplomatic experience, having previously served as Ghana’s Ambassador to both Egypt and Saudi Arabia. He also referenced the appointment of Mr. Kofi Attor, a former Member of Parliament for Ho Central, describing his parliamentary and governance experience as an asset to Ghana’s diplomatic representation.

Mr. Emmanuel Opeku was also introduced as Ambassador-in-Situ, with over two decades of diplomatic service, most recently serving as Ghana’s Honorary Consul to Germany. His appointment reflects continuity and institutional memory within Ghana’s foreign service.

The envoys further pledged to deliver measurable outcomes under the Performance Management Framework, which assesses the work of Ghana’s diplomats abroad. The framework aligns diplomatic engagements with Ghana’s foreign policy priorities, particularly in the areas of trade expansion, foreign direct investment, diaspora engagement, consular services, and economic diplomacy.

“That tells you that the President has an eye for excellence. Can we congratulate him for that? As we set forth to represent this country, I believe strongly that each and us is guided by a deep sense of patriotism. Patriotism that is activated by a love for God and country.”

The commissioning of the five envoys brings the total number of envoys appointed under President Mahama to 34, signaling a deliberate and strategic effort to reposition Ghana’s diplomacy. The move reflects the administration’s intent to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations, particularly within Africa, where President Mahama is championing an agenda built on partnerships, trade, and mutual respect rather than donor dependency under the Accra Reset initiative.

In September, President Mahama commissioned eighteen envoys, including Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, and the High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Sabah Zita Benson. This was followed in October by the commissioning of eleven additional envoys, among them the Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Kojo Choi.

The deployment of envoys remains central to Ghana’s foreign policy execution, serving as the frontline representatives of the state in advancing diplomacy, safeguarding national interests, attracting investment, promoting trade, protecting citizens abroad, and strengthening Ghana’s global standing.
