Ghana, a strategic market for Wines from South Africa

south_africa_flagMr Matome Mbatha, the Marketing Manager, Wines of South Africa has said Ghana is a very strategic market for wines from South Africa.

He said the demand for the commodity is high, hence the organisation of the second wine tasting event in Ghana with the introduction of new wine dealers.

Mr Mbatha was speaking at the second edition of the Wines of South Africa grand tasting event in Accra.

The Grand Tasting Event an initiative of Wines of South Africa, a non – profit Organisation, seeks to promote the world acclaimed South African Wines to consumers around the World.

It is also to encourage the exports of all South African wine in key international markets.

He said the organisers were thrilled to present the second year of hosting wine shows in the West African Region, following the success of the inaugural tour last year.

He said this year the tour started from Lagos, Nigeria before getting to Accra, Ghana and has significantly encompassed diversity innovation.

He said more diversity had been introduced in terms of new brands and new partnership.

The Marketing Manager said the event was an opportunity that would enable local businesses to create jobs and help grow and develop the Ghanaian wine industry.

“It will also give consumers the opportunity to taste and experience the different wine types in the world,” he added.

He said the event also enabled wine producers to introduce their brands to their potential customers and distributors, and create the network to enhance co-operation between the two countries.

Mr Ben Jordaan, Winemaker from Accolade Wines told the Ghana News Agency that the Ghanaian wine market needs to be supported to grow.

He said Accolade Wines had expanded with the demand from their customers to offer a range of innovative wines that represent the pride of delivery.

South Africa is currently the World’s seventh largest producer, responsible for 4.0 per cent of overall volume production.
