Ghana’s Ambassador to Russia with concurrent accreditation to Kazakhstan, Koma Steem Jehu-Appiah, has held high-level talks with officials of the Chamber of Commerce of Kazakhstan to explore avenues for strengthened economic cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting took place in Astana on March 5, 2026, where the parties discussed potential collaboration between the Kazakh business body and the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The discussions focused on expanding trade and investment partnerships and creating stronger links between the private sectors of both countries.
Ambassador Jehu-Appiah was accompanied by his spouse, Dr. Mrs. Caroline Jehu-Appiah, and the Head of Chancery at Ghana’s Embassy in Moscow, Dr. Abiel Armah. The delegation engaged Kazakh officials on opportunities to enhance commercial cooperation and facilitate business exchanges between companies in Ghana and Kazakhstan.
Key sectors identified for potential collaboration include energy, mining, and agriculture—areas where both countries possess significant economic potential and complementary expertise.
Trade relations between Ghana and Kazakhstan have steadily expanded in recent years. According to OECD, Ghana’s exports to Kazakhstan, primarily cocoa and cocoa-based products, reached approximately $40 million in 2024, reflecting an average annual growth rate of about 15.4 percent over the past five years.
Kazakhstan’s exports to Ghana remain comparatively modest, valued at around $293,000 in 2024, but have shown signs of growth, particularly in machinery and industrial goods.
According to the Ghanaian Embassy in Moscow, the engagement forms part of broader diplomatic efforts to strengthen Ghana’s economic diplomacy and expand trade partnerships beyond traditional markets.
As a follow-up to the meeting, a virtual session is expected to be organized between the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce of Kazakhstan to exchange information on business opportunities, investment frameworks, and trade policies in their respective countries.
The Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan, established on July 29, 2014, has played a key role in strengthening the country’s foreign economic relations and promoting Kazakh businesses globally.
Since 2017, the chamber has been a member of the International Chamber of Commerce and the World Chambers Federation, global networks that collectively represent more than 13,000 chambers of commerce and millions of companies across over 130 countries.
The engagement also carries broader diplomatic significance, highlighting Ghana’s growing efforts to diversify its economic partnerships and deepen relations with countries in Central Asia.
By fostering institutional links between business associations, both Ghana and Kazakhstan are seeking to create new channels for trade, investment, and technology exchange, strengthening bilateral ties while opening opportunities for private-sector collaboration in emerging markets.
