Mr. Jeeva Sagar, Indian High Commissioner, on Friday paid a day’s visit to health institutions in Ho, Volta Regional capital.
The visit was to afford the Commissioner the opportunity to familiarise himself with activities of the institutions and explore areas for possible cooperation with similar institutions in India.
At the Ho Nurses’ Training College, the Commissioner underscored the importance of education in health to national development and charged the students to develop interest in the profession.
He said India had scholarship schemes for academic and refresher courses, which is open to students of the College.
Madam Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Regional Minister commended Mama Attrato II, Queen mother of Ho-Dome for initiating the visit of the Commissioner and asked the students to take advantage of the scholarship package.
She appealed to the India High Commission to support Krachi Midwifery School at Kete-Krachi.
At the University of Health and Allied Sciences, the Commissioner commended the students for choosing to train and work in the health sector and urged them to be patriotic and prepared to serve Ghana after graduation.
Tracing the relationship between Ghana and India, he underscored the need for the two countries to work together in view of their similar socio-economic and political aspirations and challenges.
Mr Sagar said the two countries must use best practices around the world to propel home grown policies to enhance the living standard of their people and not depend on developed countries.
Professor Fred Binka, Vice-Chancellor of UHAS said the University hold prospects for healthcare delivery in the country and announced that some faculties would relocate to the University’s permanent site next academic year.
He said the University would graduate its first batch of students this year and begin graduate programmes next year.
The Commissioner later interacted with Ho bead makers and encouraged them to add value to their products to support the local economy.
