Israeli Ambassador supports Pamela Bridgewater Project

Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Sharon Bar-li has made a presentation to the Pamela Bridgewater Project to support the activities of the foundation.

According to Project Manager Mr. Yahaya Alhassan, the amount donated, which was made in partnership with Gyandoh & Co, a law firm in Accra, will be used for the completion of the Kejetia-Kayaye Resettlement Centre.

The Centre, when completed will provide education, assess training needs and recommend appropriate training for the head porters.

It will also serve as a platform for counseling and education on HIV awareness, teenage and unwanted pregnancy, proper healthcare, report of abuse, security, welfare among others.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Sharon Bar-li explained that the Israeli Embassy decided on the Pamela Bridgewater project because of the shared importance attached to the “girl child” in general and the “Kayaye“ phenomenon in particular.

She said this was part of efforts by her outfit to support Ghana’s bid to achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) No. 3, which promotes gender equality and women empowerment.

“I’m also happy to join the effort of [transforming] Kayaye girls from vulnerable girls into empowered girls, who can make informed choices with regards o their lives and their bodies” she added.

On his part, Mr. Yahaya Alhassan on behalf of the Foundation expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Barli for her “timely support”.

He also commended her for her continued commitment towards empowering women in society.

“Her Excellency is touching many lives in Ghana in areas of early childhood development education and capacity-building programmes for Ghanaians in Israel through the MASHAV initiative”

“Her kind gesture during the recent Eid-ul-Adhar festival and the extension of the early childhood education programme recently to the North are just a few of the making contributions of her country to Ghana” he said

The Managing Partner of Gyandoh & Co, who represented the Law firm at the event, said “’we are deeply proud of our association with Israel and we are hopeful that this good will further deepens our ties with the embassy’.
