
President John Dramani Mahama has been elected Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States for a one year term.
President Mahama was elected during the 44th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Yamoussoukro, La Cote d’Ivoire.
He takes over from President Alassane Ouattara of La Cote d’Ivoire.
President Mahama is scheduled to give his acceptance speech at the Closing Session of the Summit today.
