Tunisian Illegal Migrants Rescued Off Eastern Coasts

A Tunisian navy unit on Monday rescued seven Tunisians aged between 25 and 35 off the coastal city of Sfax in eastern Tunisia, the Agence Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported.

The migrants set sail on Sunday night from the coast of Skhira and tried to illegally sail into Italy, a statement from the Defense Ministry was quoted as saying.

The rescued Tunisians were transferred to the Sfax naval base and handed over to the National Guard in the region to receive legal procedures.

Meanwhile, the Defense Ministry said in a separate statement that military patrols deployed in Ben Guerdane area last weekend arrested 25 sub-Saharans who were trying to cross the land borders between Tunisia and Libya illegally in both directions without any identity documents.
