US Embassy donates new classroom block to Zamrama Line

The United Sates Embassy has donated a new three-storey classroom block to the Zamrama Line Community in Accra to boost teaching and learning.

The facility would accommodate more than 700 pupils at the Zamrama Line cluster of schools in Laterbiokoshie in Accra.

A statement issued by Zainab Mahama, US Embassy Information Specialist and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday said the 18-unit classroom block would provide sufficient classrooms to allow all students in the schools to access the full days period of teaching and learning, and reduce the double shift system within the Accra Metropolis.

It said the US Government through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) had partnered the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to build the Zamrama Line cluster of schools block and three other 18-unit classroom blocks at Salvation Army in Mamprobi, Kotobabi Abavana, and Okpoti in Dansoman.

It said the USAID provided $ 2.3 million for the four classroom blocks, adding that part of these funds was used to purchase equipment and tools to maintain the new facilities.

It said the AMA provided essential counterpart funding, which included the provision of land, geotechnical and geomantic surveys as well as project management, and supervision.

The statement said the Zamrama Line classroom block and the three others were designed to include libraries and science and computer laboratories.

The statement said in addition to the modern facilities, which were disability-friendly, USAID provided basic classroom and office furniture and the AMA is ensuring that the libraries and laboratories are equipped.

It said Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, Minister of Education, Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Accra Mayor, Ms. Natasha de Marcken, Director of USAIDs Office of Education and Ms. Marisol Perez, USAID/Ghana Education Office Director inaugurated the Zamrama Line classroom block on March 27, 2014.

It said the US is committed to its long-term partnership with the government, educators, and parents to help all Ghanaian children access quality education and establish the foundation for a bright and prosperous future.
