Madam Guitele Nicoleau, Chief of Party, USAID Partnership for Education (Learning) has presented 10 Toyota Hilux vehicles to the ten regional offices of the USAID Partnership for Education (Learning).
The vehicles are to help the officials carry out their programmes so as to help realize the purpose of the Learning project of the Partnership for Education initiative.
Speaking during the presentation on Monday, Madam Nicoleau said the USAID Partnership for Education (Learning project) begun in 2014 to support government in reaching its goal of 80 per cent of school children being able to read by the time they get to Primary 3.
She said the USAID partnership for Education has many components with Learning being just one aspect of it.
Madam Nicoleau said the five year programme which is being implemented in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education was aimed at improving the reading performance of 2.8 million primary school pupils.
She said so far USAID was implementing the project in 165 districts with 28,000 schools been supported with over 4 million supplementary books.
Madam Nicoleau said the USAID Partnership for Education (Learning) was also collaborating with the GES/MOE local organisations such as GIMPA, educators in the country to finalise the Ghana Reading Action Plan (G-RAP), which is aimed at ensuring that school children at the primary level learn using their mother tongue.
Mr Jacob Kor, Director- General, Ghana Education Service, expressed his appreciation to the USAID for initiative saying it would help to improve on the learning abilities of pupils.
He said the vehicles had been presented to Regional Directors of Education as they work closely with the officials of regional officials of USAID Partnership for Education (Learning).
He called on the drivers to take good care of the vehicles to enable them last longer and also to avoid developing avoidable repairs.
He urged the users of the vehicles to abide by the laid rules governing the use of the vehicles which included being used only for official purposes as the GES and USAID Partnership for Education (Learning) would monitor the use of the vehicle.
Mrs Rosetta Addison Sackey, GES Director, Eastern Region who received the vehicles on behalf of Regional Directors of Education expressed her appreciation to the USAID for the initiative and its commitment towards the education of the Ghanaian child.
