Togbe Afede receives Business & Entrepreneurship Award at Impact Africa Summit

The Chairman of the World Trade Centre in Accra, Togbe Afede was on Thursday July 7, honored as the Business & Entrepreneurship Laureate at the maiden edition of the Impact Africa Summit: Ghana in Accra.

The summit which was organized by Diplomatic Call attracted key members of the diplomatic corps, academia, government officials, civil society, and stalwarts from the business community to take a critical look at the prospects of the Sustainable Development Goals for the African continent. The summit also exploited avenues for partnerships between government and businesses for the implementation of the SDGs in Ghana.

A key aspect of the Impact Africa Summit was its Honorary Awards component where sons of the land described by the summit’s guideline as the “New African Personality”; an assured African or Non – African, confident in Africa and has exerted a positive impact on the development agenda in the country were honoured.

Accordingly, and in line with Goal 8 of the Sustainable Development Goals, Togbe Afede received the Business & Entrepreneurship Award for his exceptional Entrepreneurial and Business Skills and Acumen.

The honor conferred on Togbe Afede was also based on his strategic exploits in establishing the World Trade Centre in Ghana .This places Ghana on the verge of becoming an iconic world-class landmark of international business which in turn “Impacts” the local economy, in creating jobs and enhancing prosperity.

Further, through his unrelenting efforts, Accra has earned a seat at the table of the World Trade Centre Association (WTCA) Board of Directors as the only representative from Africa following his election to the International Board of the Association.

Receiving the award on behalf of Togbe Afede, the Managing Director of the World Trade Centre, Accra, Mr.  Emmanuel Doni-Kwame dedicated the award to all entrepreneurs. He mentioned that the Sustainable Development Agenda is a business priority for the World Trade Centre. He called on the UNDP to consider implementing an SME policy that would encourage sustainable growth.

He further encouraged members of the business community to come out with innovative products and services that are environmentally friendly and also adopt the value chain approach by bringing value to all business initiatives; citing the results of the work and operations of the World Trade Centre Accra as an example.

The Business and Entrepreneurship Award was presented by Babantunde Ahonsi, the Country Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and sponsored by EnrgyNet  Ltd in the UK.
