Moroccan Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister

Madam Imane Ouaadil, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Ghana has paid a courtesy call on Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra.

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, copied to the Ghana News Agency said the meeting aimed at reaffirming the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations and exploring avenues for deeper cooperation.

During the meeting, Madam Ouaadil emphasized the longstanding tradition of mutual support between Ghana and Morocco.

She expressed Morocco’s appreciation for Ghana’s participation in the Atlantic Countries Initiative and sought Ghana’s support in Morocco’s bid for re-election to the Security Council of the African Union.

Discussions also touched on engagement with Sahelian states, with the Ambassador stressing the need for their reintegration into the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

She further highlighted Morocco’s commitment to academic cooperation, announcing a significant expansion of Moroccan scholarships for Ghanaian students from 90 to 180, underscoring the growing ties between the two countries.

Another key topic was the reactivation of the Ghana-Morocco Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC), last convened in 2018.

Mr Ablakwa emphasised the need to enhance trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. Indicating that Morocco could offer technical support in executing Ghana’s agribusiness programme, particularly in fertilizer and seedling production, since it had a comparative advantage in that area.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic relations, fostering vibrant trade partnerships, and advancing mutual interests on regional and international platforms.
