President Mahama joins Ruto to celebrate Kenya’s 62nd Jamhuri Day

President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, December 12, joined his Kenyan counterpart President William Sameoi Ruto to celebrate the East African nation’s 62nd Independence Day (Jamhuri Day) in Nairobi.

President Mahama, who was the guest speaker at the Kenyan national Day parade held at the Nyayo Sports Stadium in Nairobi, said celebrating Jamhuri Day with President Ruto and Kenya was a testament to their bond of brotherhood.

He said the people of Ghana stand in solidarity with the brothers and sisters in Kenya.

“We pay tribute to the memory of our forebears who fought valiantly for our freedom, and we do not take their sacrifices for granted,” President Mahama said.

“The friendship between our independence leaders remains an enduring flame that continues to bind our two nations together in a spirit of Pan-African unity.”

He said Africa faces many challenges, including a global order that remains rigged against them. “It is time for us to add value to our exports and secure a fairer share of our natural resource endowments,” he stated.

“But most importantly, this is the time for us to provide transparent, accountable leadership to our people and to unleash the creativity and energy of our young people.”

President Mahama said Kenya remains a respected member of the African Union and other international bodies, and Ghana wishes Kenya continued success. Kenya gained independence from Britain on December 12, 1963.
