Morocco Donates 2,000 metric tons of fertilizer to strengthen Ghana’s food security efforts

The Government of the Kingdom of Morocco has donated 2,000 metric tons of fertilizer to the Republic of Ghana, in a move aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation and supporting agricultural productivity.

The donation was officially received on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, during a brief ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra, underscoring the growing partnership between the two countries.

Receiving the consignment, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, expressed appreciation to the Moroccan government, describing the gesture as timely and reflective of the strong diplomatic ties between Accra and Rabat.

He noted that the support aligns with Ghana’s broader strategy to enhance food security and agricultural resilience, adding that Morocco had previously extended similar assistance. The Minister further revealed ongoing discussions on potential collaboration in local fertilizer production, highlighting it as a step toward long-term sustainability.

Beyond agriculture, he pointed to expanding areas of cooperation, including visa facilitation and sports development, which he said would strengthen people-to-people connections and promote mutual benefits for both countries.

The ambassador of Morocco to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil who was also present,described the donation as the second consignment of fertilizer support, emphasising that it reflects the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

She reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to advancing agricultural development across the African continent, noting that the support would help improve farm productivity, strengthen resilience within Ghana’s agricultural sector, and cushion the effects of global challenges such as climate change, supply chain disruptions and rising input costs.

Adding her voice, the Chief Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khadijah Iddrisu, noted that the donation represents a tangible outcome of sustained diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

She emphasised that the gesture reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that bilateral cooperation delivers practical benefits, adding that the fertilizer support would contribute to ongoing national efforts to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security.
