Liberia repatriates citizen’s remains from Ghana as investigation continues

The Government of Liberia has repatriated the mortal remains of its citizen, Austin Tengbeh, from Ghana to Monrovia following his tragic death in Accra, as investigations into the case continue.

The remains departed Accra earlier this week and were received in Monrovia by family members and well-wishers, according to a recent statement issued by the Embassy of Liberia in Ghana on its official platform.

The development comes weeks after the 26-year-old Liberian national, died on February 27, 2026, following a violent mob attack in the Lashibi–Sakumono area of Accra.

He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, with preliminary accounts indicating the violence stemmed from a misunderstanding that escalated and drew a crowd.

The case quickly gained public attention after reports and footage circulated online, prompting calls for justice. Ghanaian authorities launched investigations through the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), leading to the arrest of several suspects, while Liberia’s Embassy in Accra was formally notified.
