Ghana targets defence industrial growth with Türkiye visit

Ghana is stepping up efforts to develop its defence industry following a high-level working visit to Türkiye by Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Gyenfi.

The visit combined diplomatic engagement with strategic industrial discussions, as Mr. Gyenfi led a delegation in his dual role as Deputy Minister and Board Chairman of the Defence Industries Holding Company (DIHOC).

The delegation included representatives from both DIHOC and Dalpha Group Co. Ltd, signalling a coordinated public-private push to revitalise Ghana’s local defence manufacturing sector through foreign partnerships.

Facilitated by the Embassy of Ghana in Ankara, the visit featured high-level engagements with Turkish institutions, including discussions linked to the Turkish Presidency and the Investment Office of the Presidency of Türkiye. Talks focused on adapting Türkiye’s defence investment model to channel capital, technology, and expertise into Ghanaian projects.

A key component of the visit was a series of industrial tours, allowing the Ghanaian delegation to assess advanced manufacturing capabilities and explore opportunities for technology transfer.

These included visits to ATEŞÇİ Machinery, known for ammunition production systems, and AK Defence Factory, which specialises in small arms and tactical equipment. The engagements centred on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, promoting investment in Ghana’s defence sector, and identifying strategic partnerships to support long-term industrial capacity.

The initiative reflects a broader strategy to position Ghana as an emerging player in defence manufacturing by leveraging international expertise and fostering technology-driven growth.

The visit marks a significant step toward advancing Ghana’s defence industrialisation agenda while deepening strategic ties with Türkiye in both security and industry.
