Asante Akyem North MP detained in the Hague airport, reasons unclear

Parliament has confirmed that the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr. Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands, under circumstances yet to be officially clarified.

“It has come to the attention of Parliament that, the Hon Member for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr Kwame Ohene Frimpong has been detained at the Schipol Airport, Amsterdam in the Netherlands.”,the statement mentioned. 

According to a statement released this evening, 12th May 2026, from Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Speaker and Parliamentary Leadership are currently in contact with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague to obtain detailed information on the matter and the reasons surrounding the MP’s detention.

“The Rt Hon Speaker and the Leadership of the House are in touch with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague for detailed information on the matter.“ ,it added.

The statement added that the public will be duly informed once further official details are received from the relevant authorities as  reasons for the detention remain unclear.

The statement was signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror.
