France Ambassador lauds €2.5 billion investment in Ghana at National Day Reception

French Ambassador to Ghana, Diarra Dime-Labille, has highlighted the growing economic footprint of French businesses in Ghana, estimating that French investments in the country stand at about €2.5 billion, with the private sector contributing significantly to job creation and economic development.

She made the remarks during France’s National Day reception held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, where diplomats, government officials, business leaders and members of Ghana’s private sector gathered to celebrate the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Ghana and France.

The Ambassador described economic cooperation as a key pillar of the bilateral relationship, noting that Ghana has become an important destination for French companies seeking opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

According to trade data cited by the French Embassy, Ghana ranks among France’s leading markets in Sub-Saharan Africa outside the Francophone bloc, emerging as the fifth-largest French market among non-Francophone countries in the region, the seventh-largest destination for French trade on the African continent and one of France’s important commercial partners in West Africa.

The growing economic ties are reflected in the diversity of trade between both countries. Ghana’s exports to France are largely driven by cocoa products, agricultural commodities and processed food products, while France exports machinery, capital goods, pharmaceutical products, chemicals, perfumes and other manufactured goods to Ghana.

The Ambassador commended the contribution of the French business community, development partners and institutions supporting economic cooperation between both countries.

“I would like to commend the dynamism of the French business community in Ghana, the Economic Department of the French Embassy, the Agence Française de Développement, the France-Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, France Employer Advisor and, of course, the over 60 French companies which contribute to Ghana’s economic development and growth while helping to enhance the attractiveness of our nation,” she stated.

She noted that more than 60 French companies currently operating in Ghana represent about €2.5 billion in investment and support slightly under 70,000 direct and indirect jobs.

“French companies currently represent €2.5 billion in investment and slightly under 70,000 direct and indirect jobs in Ghana,” she added.

The Ambassador said the continued presence of French companies demonstrates confidence in Ghana’s economic potential, while contributing to employment, technology transfer, innovation and private sector development.

Beyond trade, France has remained a significant development partner to Ghana through institutions such as the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), supporting projects in areas including infrastructure, climate resilience, energy transition, urban development and economic transformation.

Ghana’s investment environment has continued to attract global interest, with foreign direct investment remaining a major component of the country’s economic strategy. The strengthening of Ghana-France economic relations reflects a broader effort by both countries to deepen commercial cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic engagement.
