Sierra Leone High Commission mourns Secretary to the Head of Chancery

The Sierra Leone High Commission in Accra has announced the passing of Angela Kaine, who served as Secretary to the Head of Chancery at the diplomatic mission.

Kaine died on Sunday, October 4, 2026, in Accra following a short illness, according to a statement issued by the High Commission.

The mission described her death as a loss to the High Commission and those who worked closely with her, saying her absence would leave a void that would be difficult to express in words.

“We will all miss her more than words can express,” the High Commission said in its tribute to Kaine.

Kaine was listed by the Sierra Leone High Commission as part of its support staff, serving as Secretary to the Head of Chancery. The mission’s current Head of Chancery is Minister Counsellor Edwin Aiah Mbawa.

Her role placed her within the administrative team supporting the work of Sierra Leone’s diplomatic mission in Ghana.

The High Commission did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding her illness, beyond stating that she had succumbed to a short illness.

It said funeral arrangements would be announced after consultations with Kaine’s family.

The mission has also opened its channels to receive messages of condolence from colleagues, members of the diplomatic community and others wishing to mourn with the family.

The announcement comes as the Sierra Leone High Commission continues its diplomatic and consular work in Accra under High Commissioner Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba, who also has concurrent accreditation to Togo and Burkina Faso.

Kaisamba was reassigned to Ghana in July 2024 after serving as Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Türkiye, according to the High Commission.

The Sierra Leone High Commission has previously described its staff as a close-knit team, with officials and support staff working together to advance the mission’s responsibilities in Ghana.

Kaine’s passing is therefore being mourned within the mission as the loss of a member of its administrative team, with colleagues and friends expected to join the family in paying tribute to her.

Further details on the funeral and burial arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family and the High Commission in due course.
