Spain Commends Ghana For support

Mrs-Maria-Alonso-Spanish-AmbassadorMrs Maria Alonso, Spanish Ambassador, has commended Ghana for supporting her country to become a member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

She announced that Spain intends to advocate Africa and defend Africa’s interest on the international stage.

Mrs Alonso gave the commendation when she paid a courtesy call on Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

Ghana and Spain have had diplomatic relations which dates back to 1969.

Mrs Alonso said more than 60 per cent of the issues that are discussed at the UN Security Council are matters that affect the African continent.

She said Spain is interested in having close relations with Ghana and being able to talk about issues that interest the country.

She said currently the diplomatic relations between the two countries is very good and expressed the hope to deepen it further.

Mrs Alonso expressed the optimism to expand the commercial and economic relations between the two nations for the mutual benefit of their people.

 

She said currently Spain is multiplying its commercial relations with Ghana and there would be more trade missions by Spanish businessmen to explore investment opportunities in the country.

 

She said although the Spanish economy is in crisis a few years back, the present government had put in the right measures which has been able to return the economy to the path of growth.

 

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur praised Spain for the continuous support to the Ghanaian economy as well as other positive benefits the country had received from the bilateral relations.

 

He said trade exports and financial cooperation between the two countries had increased over the years and therefore urged the Spanish Ambassador to do more to ensure cooperation between Ghanaian businesses and their Spanish counterparts.
