Africa World Airlines (AWA) is set to commence flights to Takoradi, Ghana’s oil and gas city, with a maiden flight on May 1.
This follows more than two and a half yeasr of having tried and tested the domestic market and entering successfully into the regional market.
A statement issued by the airline said it would introduce two flights a day and three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with morning flights from Accra in the 7am window, offering a quick 25-minute travel time on any of its three modern Embraer ERJ 145LR jets to Takoradi.
The flight would return within the hour of 4 pm to pick up travellers thereby providing either a seamless day trip or a two nights’ business trip option to its travellers.
“Flights in and out of Takoradi will commence with a maiden flight on May Day and then subsequently every Monday Wednesday and Friday in the mornings and evenings.”
Speaking on AWA’s readiness to commence flights into Takoradi, Mr Apiigy Afenu, Chief Operations Officer confirmed that management had finalised all arrangements with the Airforce Base, as the Takoradi Airport is operated by Ghana Airforce and are very pleased with the results of the due diligence audits.
Mr Cheng Luo, Chief Executive Officer of AWA stated: “The chance we have been waiting for has arrived, where we are able to satisfy not only the business, government and non-government travelling community of Ghana but also the people and indigenes of the Western Region looking for tourism and economic opportunities to network”.
Head of Commercial Sales, Revenue and Marketing, Katherine Tosan Woode expressed excitement about the one stop shop corporate packages available for the busy travel market into and out of Takoradi as well as the partnership travel agencies and hotels that had been chosen to come on board with AWA.
Selling of tickets would commence on Monday April 20 and travel would begin in earnest from Monday May 4, after the maiden flight.
AWA is a Ghanaian registered private company, formed with the sole vision of making air travel an option for majority of travelers within the markets in which it operates.
AWA plans to expand its route network to the West African sub-region and would take delivery of brand new Airbus A319 2-class configuration aircraft to bring even more reliability, safety and comfort to its cherished passengers.
