Ghanaian Cyclist Embarks On Charity Ride To UK

charity-ride-to-ukNana Duawusu Preston, a Ghanaian Cyclist, is organising what he calls the “big cycle run” from Ghana to United Kingdom (UK) in September, to raise 15,000 Euros to support three local charities.

The charity bike ride aims to support PrestGreg Charitable Trust Foundation, Sabre Charitable Trust and Ghana Society for the Mentally and Physically Disabled.

Nana Preston told Ghana News Agency in Accra at the weekend, that the fund raising activity is also intended to facilitate the pursuit of education as well as interventions in health and disability care.

He said his vision includes a future where children, including those with disabilities are free from illness and illiteracy could realise their full potential, would lead their communities to make a higher level in sustainable development and make great impact on the lives of the disadvantaged.

Nana Preston noted that everyday millions of children miss school, sometimes because there are not enough teachers or because they need to walk a number of kilometres in pursuit of education.

“Many more struggle to learn in overcrowded classroom up to a 100 and only one teacher.

“It is on record that currently 60 million children are still missing out on school and one in a three has a disability.”

Nana Preston said he aims to become the first Ghanaian and as a matter of fact the first African to cycle from Ghana to UK through nine countries over four months to support charity work.

“From my own experience of growing up in a disadvantaged setting in Ghana, I am very much aware of the challenges facing the youth, the disabled and the poor in leading healthy, successful and productive lives.
