Australia Awards Masters Scholarships To 14 Ghanaians

Australia-support-Ghanaian-studentsThe Australian Government has awarded Masters Scholarships to 14 Ghanaians, amongst more than 200 African scholarship winners to study in Australia in 2015.

The Australian High Commission’s Chargé d’Affaires, Mr Tim Millikan said farewell to  them at an official reception in Accra.

A statement issued by the Australian High Commission in Accra and copied to Ghana News Agency on Friday said the reception was part of a three-day workshop hosted by his country for the scholarship winners.

 

The workshop also focused on how the awardees would use their knowledge to contribute to their countries’ development outcomes after their studies.

“In providing this scholarship, the Australian Government ‘s objective is to provide high quality education and training to talented Ghanaian professionals, who on their return home, will be in a better position to make an  important contribution to national or regional development,” Mr Millikan said.

The statement observed that the Australia Awards provides postgraduate training opportunities to 22 countries across Africa.

It said the programme promotes development in Africa through scholarships in areas where Australia is recognised as having world-leading expertise, including agriculture, food security, and public policy.

“The Australian Government opened applications for the latest round of Australia Awards Scholarships and the shorter-term Australia Awards Fellowships on September 1, 2014.

“Applications for Masters Awards close on 12 December and Fellowships close on 16 January. The Australia Awards promotes equal participation by both women and men and encourages women to apply,” it said.

It said the initiative also aims to ensure that people with disability are given fair and equal opportunity and arrangements are in place to support applicants and awardees who require specific assistance and support.
