Brazil Offers Scholarship To Ghanaian Students

The Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil has awarded scholarships to 26 Ghanaian students to study in both public and private Brazilian Universities.

Every year, many Ghanaian students are given the opportunity to undertake various degree courses free of charge within any field of expertise, as long as it is available in the Federal, State and Private universities in Brazil, under the scholarship Programme for First Degree Students (PEC-G).

As part of the scholarship programme, students are expected to study the Portuguese language for a year before continuing their degree programmes of study.

This year, the 26 Ghanaian students would be pursuing degree courses in Biomedicine, Nursing, International Relations, Pharmaceutical Science, Computer Science, Petroleum Engineering, Textiles Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Business Administration, Information and Communication Systems and Graphic Design.

The bilateral cooperation in education under the Brazil-Ghana Cooperation framework has yielded fruitful results over the years and this has been demonstrated with the record of 26 scholarships offered to Ghanaian students in 2014 – the highest since the inception of the programme in 1965. Last year, only 12 Ghanaian Students were awarded scholarships under the same programme.

Those who wish to participate in the PEC-G must apply from Mid-April till June each year at the Brazilian Embassy, where the first selection of the candidates is made.

Upon graduating, these students are expected to return to Ghana and contribute to the development of the nation.
