German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Accra, on Thursday, to hold discussions with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Akufo towards bolstering German-Ghana ties, as well as evolving ways both nations can collaborate to address the challenges of sub-regional security and Migration.
The one-day visit is part of her three-nation tour of West Africa, which has already taken her to the Senegal.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia met Chancellor Merkel, with her delegation, at the Kotoka International Airport.
The discussions President Akufo-Addo Akufo would take place the Jubilee House.
Information Minister nominee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, told a News conference in Accra, on Wednesday, said the meeting would, among other issues, discuss Ghana’s role in addressing insecurity in the sub-region, with focus on the political impasse in Togo, Mali and Nigeria and the recent efforts of President Akufo-Addo in providing leadership to address those challenges.
He said after her meeting with the President, Chancellor Merkel would participate in a panel discussion on the ‘Compact for Africa’, which Ghana was to be beneficiary.
Ghana stands to get some 100 million Euros to revamp the country’s energy and financial sectors.
She is also expected to visit the GIZ – funded project, Impact Hub, at Osu, in Accra.
