ChefAbbys pays courtesy call on Ghana’s Ambassador to Togo

Ghanaian chef and food creator Chef Abbys has paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Ambassador to Togo, Capt. George Kofi Nfojoh (Rtd) as she begins the Togo leg of her West Africa Food Tour.

The courtesy call provided Chef Abbys with an opportunity to share the purpose of her visit and discuss her plans for her time in Togo, as she prepares to explore the country’s culinary heritage and document experiences for her growing audience as part of a six-country culinary journey aimed at exploring and showcasing the region’s diverse food cultures and traditions.

Togo is the first stop on the tour, which began on August 20 and will take the Ghanaian culinary creator to Nigeria, Liberia, Togo, Senegal, Cape Verde and Côte d’Ivoire. The tour is designed to explore the food, traditions and cultural identities of West African countries and present their stories to audiences beyond the region.

Chef Abbys has expressed excitement about being in Togo and discovering the country’s food, culture and traditions. Her visit is expected to provide an opportunity to explore the culinary practices, local ingredients and cultural experiences that form part of Togo’s identity within the wider West African heritage.

Sharing her experience of the diplomatic engagement, Chef Abby described the meeting with Ghana’s Ambassador as a pleasure and expressed appreciation for the insightful conversation as she begins the Togo leg of her journey.

“Honored to have paid a courtesy call to the Ghana Ambassador to Togo. It was a pleasure sharing the purpose of my visit to Togo and having such an insightful conversation about the journey ahead.I’m so excited to be here, experience its food and culture, and share the beauty of this incredible country with you” she posted on social media.

The West Africa tour builds on Chef Abby’s growing body of international culinary work, following her Ghana Heritage Month Food Tour, during which she travelled across Ghana documenting local dishes, traditions and stories before taking the experience abroad.

In May, she took the project to the United Kingdom, embarking on a food tour from May 10 to 26 that included culinary experiences, masterclasses, collaborations with UK creators and cultural engagements. The Ghana High Commission in London said the tour helped showcase Ghanaian food and culture to international audiences.

Chef Abby’s UK journey also included collaborations with British food creators and engagements with major digital platforms. She later visited the YouTube and Google UK offices, while also working with other creators to introduce Ghanaian cuisine to new audiences.

Her international work is consistent with the broader mission behind her culinary platform. Chef Abbys, whose real name is Abena Amoakoa Sintim-Aboagye, describes herself as a Ghanaian chef, food creator and African food advocate using food, storytelling and global collaborations to shape how international audiences experience African cuisine.

The West Africa tour therefore extends that approach from promoting Ghanaian cuisine abroad to exploring the culinary connections and distinctions that exist across the region itself. By documenting food, people and traditions in each destination, the project has the potential to present West African cuisine as a diverse cultural ecosystem rather than a collection of isolated national cuisines.

As Chef Abbys continues through the six-country itinerary, her Togo visit is expected to form part of a wider visual and culinary record of West Africa, giving her audience an opportunity to experience the region through its food, culture and people.
