Ms Margit Thomsen, the Danish Ambassador to Ghana on Tuesday reiterated the Danish Government’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s decentralisation process.
She said the Danish Government supported the first comprehensive decentralization policy between 2002 and 2003 which had made some progress.
Ms Thomsen said this when she paid a courtesy call on Hajia Alima Mahama, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development in Accra.
The call on the Minister was to develop policies that would strengthen the decentralization policies in the country
She said the Danish Government was already supporting the country in the transportation, water and sanitation sectors.
Hajia Mahama noted that decentralization was an on-going process and the Ministry would go beyond the district level to the sub structures to enhance development and accountability.
She said there was the urgent need for a compost plant to be set up and requested for the assistance of putting up a compost plant to help solve the country’s solid waste problems.
The Minister assured the Ambassador of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s commitment to ensuring the progress and sustenance of the country’s decentralisation process.
