Etihad Airways to launch flights between Accra and Abu Dhabi from May 17

Etihad Airways is set to introduce direct flights between Accra and Abu Dhabi (AUH) from 17 May 2026 as part of a six-destination African expansion, a move expected to significantly improve international travel options for passengers to and from Ghana.

The announcement, made through the airline’s official channels, positions Accra among a new wave of African routes that will be connected through Abu Dhabi, strengthening links between Ghana and key global markets.

For Ghana-based travelers, the new route is expected to offer more direct and efficient connections to destinations across the Middle East, Asia and Australia, reducing reliance on traditional multi-stop routes through Europe.

Currently, many long-haul journeys from Ghana, particularly to Asia and parts of Oceania, require extended layovers or multiple connections with airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines.

The entry of Etihad will strengthen cargo logistics between Ghana and key global markets, introduce additional routing options, which could further shorten travel times and improve scheduling flexibility.

The development is also expected to increase competition within Ghana’s aviation space, potentially leading to more competitive fares, improved service offerings and greater choice for passengers.
