The Embassy of France in Ghana has opened applications for grants to support associations implementing educational, charitable, cultural or socio-economic projects that benefit French nationals living in Ghana, as part of the 2027 funding cycle of France’s Support System for French Expatriates’ Associations (STAFE).
Associations interested in the programme are required to submit their grant application forms by October 16, 2026, with a subsequent resubmission deadline of October 26, 2026. The funding is intended to support initiatives that respond to the needs of the French expatriate community and contribute to its wellbeing and integration.
The STAFE is a grant scheme administered by France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to provide financial support to associations representing French communities abroad. It is designed to assist projects that primarily benefit French nationals living outside France, particularly initiatives in education, charitable activities, culture and socio-economic integration.
Unlike direct assistance provided by French embassies and consulates to individual nationals, STAFE focuses on projects carried out by associations for the wider benefit of the French expatriate community. The scheme also operates separately from other French government funding programmes dedicated to cultural and educational activities, making it a complementary mechanism for supporting community-based initiatives abroad.
For the 2027 campaign, eligible projects must primarily benefit French nationals and fall within the programme’s designated areas. These include educational initiatives, charitable activities, cultural projects and programmes aimed at promoting socio-economic integration among French nationals living overseas.
The application process also provides for the participation of representatives of French citizens abroad and associations within the expatriate community. Their involvement forms part of the assessment mechanism through local consular councils, allowing community representatives to contribute to the identification of projects considered relevant to the needs of French nationals in their respective countries.
Following the initial application and resubmission stages, projects will proceed through the relevant selection process before being considered at the national level. The process is intended to ensure that proposed initiatives meet the objectives of the STAFE programme and provide tangible benefits to the French expatriate communities they are designed to serve.
The national STAFE Commission is scheduled to meet in Paris in March 2027 to consider the projects submitted under the 2027 campaign. The commission’s deliberations will determine which applications qualify for financial support under the programme.
Associations whose projects are selected are expected to receive formal decisions on their applications in March 2027. The approval process will then move to the disbursement stage, with grants to successful applicants expected to be paid through the relevant French diplomatic or consular posts.
Payment of approved grants is expected to begin from late March or early April 2027, providing successful associations with funding to implement projects that address identified needs within the French community in Ghana and other French expatriate communities covered by the programme.
The 2027 STAFE campaign therefore offers French associations in Ghana an opportunity to obtain government-backed financial support for community initiatives while strengthening the role of expatriate associations in providing educational, charitable, cultural and socio-economic support to French nationals living in the country.
