Ghana High Commission in South Africa, Pretoria has issued a security advisory urging Ghanaian nationals in South Africa to exercise heightened vigilance and prioritise their personal safety amid planned demonstrations in the city.
The advisory, released on April 28, 2026, cautioned members of the Ghanaian community to avoid protest areas, limit public exposure and take precautionary measures, particularly as the March Organisation prepares to stage demonstrations at the Presidency over immigration related grievances in Pretoria
“ I urge everyone to continue exercising heightened vigilance and to place the highest priority on personal safety during this period” it stated.
The alert comes against the backdrop of recurring tensions in South Africa involving protests against foreign nationals, including the planned March to the Presidency demonstration, which have at times escalated into xenophobic violence. In recent years, such incidents have led to attacks on migrant-owned businesses and heightened insecurity for African nationals, prompting diplomatic missions, including Ghana, to regularly issue safety advisories to their citizens.
In its statement, the High Commission strongly encouraged shop owners to consider closing their businesses for the day and advised individuals to steer clear of any areas where protests or demonstrations may occur.

It further urged Ghanaians to refrain from participating in public gatherings that could escalate into confrontations and to maintain a low profile during the period.
The advisory also extended to online conduct, cautioning individuals to act with discretion on digital platforms and avoid sharing content that could be perceived as provocative or inflammatory.
“Individuals are also encouraged to maintain a low profile and act with discretion in both public spaces and online platforms, including avoiding the sharing of content that may be perceived as provocative or inflammatory.” It added.
The High Commission assured that further updates would be communicated as necessary, reaffirming its commitment to the safety and welfare of Ghanaian nationals in South Africa.
