Ghana will join the rest of the world to celebrate Rare Disease Day which is held on the last day of February every year.
The day will be characterized by face and hand painting as well as taking selfies to physically show support and care to people affected by rare diseases in Ghana.
Mr Samuel Wiafe, Coordinator of Rare Disease Ghana, told the GNA that people may join the event on the 28th of February at the Ghana International School where the students will be assisted in face painting and other fun activities as well as share fliers that contains information on rare diseases.
The theme for the celebration is “Research” calling on researchers to do more and get information on some disease that do not even get diagnosed.
He said living with a rare disease came with a number of unique challenges including accessing diagnoses, medical information, treatment, psychosocial support and coping with stigma and uncertainty which impacts on their quality of life.
“Our mission is to improve the quality of life of families impacted by rare disease in Ghana through advocacy, awareness creation, research and patient support.”
Mr Wiafe called on the general public to take to social media and twit or hash tag rare disease to show support and solidarity as well as increase public interest and awareness on rare diseases
