Ghana to host ECOWAS International Kickboxing

ecowas_logoGhana will host the first event of the ECOWAS International Kickboxing Friendship tournament (EIKF) to celebrate the 2016 ECOWAS best fighters awards at the Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra.

The competition billed for June 24- 25, would see Kickboxers from Togo, Nigeria and Ivory Coast from the sub-region and Lebanon competing in the two day event.

The International Kickboxing Friendship contest is aimed at bringing together all the best professional kickboxers from the globe and to foster unity among the athletes.

Speaking at the launch of the event, the President of the West Africa Kickboxing Confederation Zone 2, Mr. Parfait Doukrou explained that the athletes will be weighed and paired in weight categories, and that, it is opened to adults and kids from age 10.

He said the event is also opened to other countries, who are not members of the ECOWAS, thus the inclusion of Lebanon.

The President said their challenge was to choose champions of Kick Boxing for each weight category in West Africa.

The President of Ghana Kick Boxing Association, Nii Adotey Joseph Mingle, expressed delight that the event is being staged in Ghana and was confident that his fighters will excel.

‘‘My fighters are poised for the competition and my outfit is prepared to move the discipline forward. I want Ghanaians to come to the Lizzy Sports Complex to witness this fight.’’ He said.

The EIKF is a gathering of kickboxers in West Africa.
