President Mahama Assures Mali Of ECOWAS Support

The Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President John Mahama, has pledged the sub-regional grouping’s support to the government and people of Mali in their post-crisis era.

Mali, which has been faced with political and security instability over the last few years, elected a new President in 2013. Even in its post-election period, the country has experienced some further turmoil, with ECOWAS and France providing peacekeeping support.

Speaking after a meeting with the Malian President, Ibrahim Boubakar Keita, in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, President Mahama said the Malian situation is being monitored, expressing confidence that the people of Mali will maintain the current peace and stability.

He indicated that Mali would be one of the issues on the agenda of the Heads of State when they meet in Accra next month. Northern Nigeria, Guinea Bissau and Mali.
