Madam Hulu Xingwana, the South African High Commissioner to Ghana, has paid a courtesy call on the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, to discuss bilateral trade between the two countries.
The call, which forms part of her official visit to departments and agencies, was also to discuss issues of importance to both countries, especially the capital cities.
Madam Xingwana said it was important to develop available lands in the cities of both countries to boost the rapid developing economies to be able to feed and employ the populace.
She said South Africa was ready to enter into bilateral agricultural trade with Ghana by inviting people from the agricultural departments to come to Ghana to discuss how best to utilise the available lands in the region.
She assured the Minister that they would work together to improve the manufacturing, production, processing and distribution sectors.
Madam Xingwana prayed that Ghana goes through the election successfully so as to create a conducive environment for effective development.
Nii Afotey Agbo said bilateral trade between both countries would be of essential benefit, especially in the agricultural sector, adding that the development of the capital cities must be paramount to be able to cater for the large populations.
He said most lands in the Greater Accra Region had been taken over by real estate developers and would not be able to support crop production but rather poultry or livestock farming on larger scales.
The Regional Minister noted that the country would be very grateful to South Africa if she was able to partner Ghana to bring such interventions on board to complement government’s efforts.
With regards to the issue of sanitation in the capital cities, he indicated that interventions such as sensitisation programmes, formation of waste management committees in localities and recycling are being put in place to improve on the sanitation of the cities.
