The Tamale Fistula Center and the Yendi Fistula Center, both in the Northern Region, have taken delivery of two fistula kits each to help in treating the disease in the region.
The fistula kits were donated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) as part of its initiative to amongst others promote maternal health in the region.
Mr Abdallah Abubakari, Northern Regional Minister, presented the items on behalf of UNFPA to the authorities of the Northern Regional Health Directorate in Tamale on Friday for presentation to the beneficiary institutions.
Mr Abubakari commended UNFPA for donating the fistula kits saying they would help to address a critical health challenge in society.
He urged the beneficiary institutions to use the equipment to make impact in healthcare delivery in the region.
Dr Jacob Mahama, Northern Regional Director of Ghana Health Service, who received the items on behalf of the beneficiary institutions, said they would help to reduce the backlog of fistula cases in the Region.
