President Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari dies after contracting Coronavirus

Official Spokesperson to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Garba Shehu announced the death of the Chief of Staff to the President.

The late retired Brig.-Gen. Mallam Abba Kyari tested positive of COVID-19 following a trip to Germany and Egypt and was receiving treatment but unfortunately passed away on Friday, April 17, 2020.

President Muhammadu Buhari has extended his condolences to the people of Kaduna, Katsina and Borno states. “We are extremely saddened by the news of Gen. Abba Kyari’s passing away, an officer and a gentleman for whom we have a lot respect.’’ He said.

Mallam Abba Kyari was a trained lawyer, military man and a banker, and an influential personality within the Buhari administration. He was a board director of Unilever Nigeria and also Exxon Mobile Nigeria.

The late Chief of Staff was also a former executive director in charge of management services at the United Bank of Africa and later made a Chief Executive Officer.

Garba Shehu added that his funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.
